Hello Joplin! Help has arrived!

Hello readers I'm Vanezia Hamilton. Today the Alternative Spring Break group arrived safely in Joplin, Missouri! When
We got here we were informed that 3000 thousand homes and 500 businesses were destroyed. The tornado reached a mile wide, ruthlessly destroying everything in it's path. While on it's path, the tornado destroyed the local hospital killing eight people, reducing the building to nothing. The tornado also distroyed a local church. Before the storm the church had a giant cross in the foyer, now the church is gone and all that remains IS the cross. When the tornado hit Joplin it also destroyed the local high school on graduation day. Fortunately, the graduating class was the largest class in several years, therefore the graduation was at the local college. Imagine the devastion that would have taken place if the graduation was at it's originally planned location. (March 4, 2012)

On Monday I heard an awesome testimony from a local deacon. In the testimonial the deacon told me and two other students about a little boy whose father was protecting him from the storm. "The soles of his shoes were sucked off by the tornado," said the deacon. After the storm the little boy told his father about seeing butterflies. Miraculously, while the man was being lifted by the terrible storm a white butterfly landed on his back and flapped its wings, slowly bringing the man back down the ground. (March 5, 2012)
